Fat burning zone calculator

Normally, you can calculate your fat-burning zone in 3 different ways.

1. Simply you can calculate fat burning zone by knowing your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR).
Fat burning zone = 60-80% of your MHR.

2. The Zoladz method is the method to calculate the heart rate zone based on your activities or exercises. This method was given by physiologist Dr. Jerzy Zoldaz.
The formula given was
Target Heart Rate (THR) =  MHR – adjuster ± 5
Here, fat fat-burning zone adjuster is around  40 – 50 bpm.

3. Karvonen Method:- It is the method to calculate THR or fat-burning zone based on resting heart rate (RHR) and Maximum heart rate (MHR).  It is also called heart rate reserve.
Target Heart Reserve = (Maximum Heart Rate − Resting Heart Reserve ) × % intensity) + Resting Heart Reserve.
Example
Suppose an adult of  25 years old with a resting heart rate (RHR) of 70 bpm.

First, let’s calculate Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)
MHR = 220 – age
          = 220 – 25
          = 195 bpm
Here, the Maximum Heart Rate of an adult is 195 beats per minute.

Now, let’s calculate Fat Burning Zones using various methods.

1. Fat burning zone = 60-80% of your MHR
            = [ 60% × 195 ] – [ 80 % ×195 ]
            = 117 – 156 bpm
2. Zoladz Method
Target Heart Rate (THR) =  MHR – adjuster ± 5
    THR = (195 – 50 ± 5) –  ( 195 – 40 ± 5)
            =  140 – 160 bpm
3. Karvonen Method
THR = [(MHR – RHR) × intensity %] +RHR
        = [(195 – 70)× 60 % +70 ]  to  [(195 – 70)× 80%+70]
       = 145 – 170 bpm

What is the significance of the fat-burning zone?

The significance of the fat-burning zone is that it refers to the heart rate zone of any individual who performs exercises or does gym. Fat burning zone makes it easier for all the person to know the range of heart rate where he can easily burn fat and move forward toward a healthy lifestyle.
